An actuary or nearly qualified actuary is required to manage the actuarial services department of an insurance company in Kenya, reporting to the managing director.  The department is responsible for all actuarial services, including product design, development, pricing and review, statutory valuations and reporting, risk management and arranging and managing reinsurance treaties.

 

Other duties include

• Analysing actuarial statistics parameters
  
• Preparing claims management and loss ratio reports
  
• Compiling market share data for life business using the annual accounts of various companies
  
• Liaising with the Company’s investment department to ensure optimal return on all investment related products
  
• Analysing the rates of return offered by other companies, including fund managers and submitting a report to management.
  
• Calculating the daily unit value for investment products and crediting fund accounts
  
• Reviewing general insurance products, pricing and profitability
